Day 28: My Thankful

I'm thankful for a pastor that actually spends time in God's face. Tonight, he was all up in my life! I was convicted to change in a few areas, and other things taking place in my life were confirmed through his words. I love that my pastor will just tell the truth, despite what others think. He doesn't sugarcoat anything, no matter how bad the truth may hurt. I love that!

I'm thankful for music! Music has the ability to affect people in so many different ways. The world would be a pretty dismal place without music, so I'm glad that God created it!

I'm thankful for what the future holds!

I'm thankful that I'm getting closer to being apart of Team iPhone! 25 more days!! Haha =)

Day 27: My Thankful

I'm thankful that I'm slowly, but surely, learning how to save my money and not let it burn a hole in my pocket. We all need financial wisdom. If you don't know how to handle $10, what makes you think you can handle $100--let alone $100,000?? We have to "get it" at the level we are at now, and then we can be blessed with more (including more responsibilities).

I'm thankful that I have two sinks in my bathroom. My bathroom joins my bedroom and the guest bedroom together, and there happens to be two sinks to satisfy both occupants in those rooms. However, I feel really blessed to have that extra sink. The sink I usually use just recently got clogged up. Some hair probably got down in there or something. But until I get that situated, I have an extra sink! And I don't have to go down the hall to wash my face, hands, etc. Yay! =)

I'm thankful for the guy who cheated on me a few years ago. Without that event, I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't be on this journey of self-discovery/purpose and learning who CANDICE is. I wouldn't have realized my soul's desperate desire to be closer to God than I had been to you. I wouldn't have known how to live without you. But it is possible, and I made it out alive and well and filled with so much JOY! So, thank you! :)

Day 26: My Thankful

I'm thankful for the compliment a customer gave me today. She said I should be a manager, since I look like I'm running everything. :)  At my job, you have to be able to multitask. Chick-fil-A and most fast food chains are very fast-paced working environments, and it keeps you on your toes. I was taking orders on the headset for the drive thru, bagging orders for front counter, and refilling drinks all within a matter of minutes. I appreciate the compliment, but I was just doing my job. =)

I'm thankful for what God has brought me from. I'm not the same person I used to be. When I was younger, I thought I knew it all. I thought I knew how my life would be. I just knew I would marry a certain person and that we would have a few kids, and live a cozy happy life. I thought for sure I was gonna be a member of the same Baptist church I was born into for the rest of my life. I thought my friends would be my friends forever. I never expected we would grow apart. I thought I was gonna be a pediatrician or an orthodontist. Little did I know, that my career aspirations would change with the seasons. I never thought I would grow out of my painfully shy days.----> However, God had different plans for my life. His plans allowed me to see that He is truly in charge. We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Day 25: My Thankful

I'm thankful for the opportunity to help decorate my job for Christmas! In my six years of working there, I've never been asked to help decorate. It was fun, and we had pizza and homemade cookies! Yum! I love food, if you haven't noticed yet. =)

I'm thankful for two good Words today at church. I went to my church, and I got to see my manager preach at his church. That's cool to witness your manager preaching the Gospel. You definitely don't see that everywhere.

I'm just thankful for everything really. I can't be thankful enough.

Day 24: My Thankful

I'm thankful for willpower and the ability to not give into temptation.

I'm thankful that I'm still eating big, two days after Thanksgiving! *Fist pump!*

I'm thankful for opportunities. Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity. Keep preparing yourselves people! What's done in the dark always comes to the light, good or bad.

I'm thankful that I can officially blast the Christmas music. Some people, including Walmart, found it cute to start playing Christmas stuff the 1st week in November. Not cool...lol

I'm thankful for new beginnings. I don't have to wait until 2012 to start anew. Change begins when you decide to change, and if nothing changes, nothing changes. I don't think I said change enough in that sentence. :-)

Day 23: My Thankful

I'm thankful that someone said I had such pretty eyes today. And I wasn't even wearing hazel or honey-colored contacts. =)

I'm thankful for my parents' annual shindig they seem to do every Black Friday. They invite over a few couples, and there's all sorts of appetizers and desserts. They play games, chat, and have lots of laughs. Tonight, I overheard my mom telling how she met my dad. Awww! How sweet! :-)...I await the day when I can share how I met my booski.....ahhh...but until then, where you at?! lol! Usually, I'll get out the house when they have their gatherings. But today, me and the bro just kicked it inside. I'm just thankful that I'm exposed to that, because it's just another thing added to the list of what I'd like to do when I have my own place.

I'm thankful for this relaxing week. About that time to get back in the grind of school. It was good while it lasted.

I'm thankful that my dad cleaned my shower. Yessss!

I'm thankful that I'm not broke, and I will never be broke another day in my life! BAM!

Thanksgiving 2011

As stated previously, I had an awesome Thanksgiving. It was just a perfect chill and peaceful day.

I intended to make both of those desserts listed below, but I was missing an ingredient for the banana pudding recipe. So I just fixed those carrots (that I've been raving about) and the cookie dough cheesecake bars. I still can't decide if I like the bars or not. One of my cousins had a bite of one when he first came over, and he was quick to say that they were a bit dry lol...but he said they were still good. So, I'm not sure if I'll make that again or not. Even though cookie dough and cheesecake are two of my favorite sweets....we'll have to see.

I had family from my dad's and mom's side come over to the house. I was really excited about those from my dad's side coming over. We rarely ever get together for family functions. We had a family reunion a few years ago, and people from the local area didn't really come; however, there were folks from out of state travelling to attend. Something's wrong with that picture. A lot of my dad's family lives within 5-15 min away, and years will go by without seeing them. Smh. My dad even has a twin sister, and I don't think I've seen her since my grandpa's funeral last December. It's so sad.

Since my grandpa passed, I've been praying earnestly that my family would grow closer. And I think we have. Numerous events including graduation celebrations, birthdays, Christmas brunch last year, getting my hair braided (by my cousin), and just visiting each other more often have taken place this year. And I'm so thankful. I've always wanted a big close-knit family, extended and immediate. I want to be able to hang out with my cousins more, and not just because we're brought together for the next holiday on the calendar.

This year was great. Good eats and great convo over dinner. I don't like those awkward moments where it's a silent dinner. Ugh! I know the food is good, but...it's better (in my opinion) if there's laughter and a good conversation going along with it.

I don't know why, but I always seem to get nervous when entertaining folks at my house. I don't want them to get bored easily. I want them to enjoy themselves, and not think my event was a waste of time. So, I was wondering how everything would flow after dinner. Those "eat and run" dinners are kinda awkward too, so I was hoping no one would do that. The guys, of course, made their way to the basement to engage in that good ol' football. **I'm gonna get into football one day. I'm gonna be rockin' a Redskins (my household's team) snapback, yelling at the TV with the guys, and giving a detailed response when someone asks me, "How 'bout that game last night?" Being that I'm a girl not associated with football, they probably won't ask. I guess I'll have to start that convo or somethin...I'll know the ropes one day. :) **

Fortunately, it wasn't awkward after dinner. We played Jenga and Pit, so that was fun. I'm just thankful for how the day played out. Just perfect.

Here's the recipes I used for the carrots (courtesy of Essence mag November 2011 edition) and the cookie dough cheesecake bars (mybakingaddiction.com).

Orange-Glazed Carrots

Makes 10 servings.
Prep time: 10 min
Cooking time: 25 min

2 pounds baby carrots
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
2 pinches salt

Boil the carrots in a shallow saucepan until tender. Drain and return carrots to pan. Simmer in orange juice over medium heat for 5 min. Stir in the brown sugar, butter and salt. Heat until butter and sugar melt.

Per serving: 100 calories, 14g carbohydrate, 12mg cholesterol, 5g fat, 1g protein, 102mg sodium

The recipe for the cookie dough cheesecake bars is kinda long. You actually make the graham cracker crust, the cheesecake filling, and the chocolate chip cookie dough. Feel free to click the link above, where you'll find the complete recipe. Here's a few of my own pictures, regarding this dessert.

Out the oven and ready to eat! Disregard the missing left corner. Had to taste test! lol

Day 22: My Thankful

Hey beautiful people! I'm gonna make this short and sweet, since I have to be at work in a few hours.

I'm thankful that today was a perfect Thanksgiving, just what I was hoping for. I thoroughly enjoyed all the time spent with family members I rarely see. The food was great, and there were no awkward moments. That's always a plus in my book.

I'm thankful that my dad's side of the family is coming together more and more. I just wish we would've been doing more prior to my grandpa's passing last December. Everything happens for a reason though.

I have so much to be thankful for! I'm filled with so much joy, and I love it!

Thanks for reading! What did you enjoy most this Thanksgiving?

Day 21: My Thankful

Happy early Thanksgiving people!

I'm really thankful for this family vibe, man. It all starts at home with the family. Get it together folks. =)

I'm sure y'all probably get so bored with my thankfuls, as many relate to food and God.....welp, oh well! lol You only have 9 more days to read my ramblings, or just ignore. Anywho....

I'm thankful for peace, love, joy, happiness, hope, and faith. Yea, all of those.

I'm thankful that I'm still cooking a lil somethin somethin for Thanksgiving. Originally, I volunteered to just have my way and cook the entire Thanksgiving meal (not including the turkey). I guess that was a pretty wild an unbelievable idea, since my mom filled my position by either buying items from my church's kitchen or cooking the things herself. Well! One thing's for certain though; my carrots are on the menu! Whoop! Whoop! I still wanted to do more for the feast, so I bought ingredients to fix banana pudding and cookie dough cheesecake bars. I'm excited!! I'm fixing those in the AM, and I'm hoping they come out ok. haha...This was probably not a smart idea to experiment on the guests, but I gotta contribute! My hands are hot! lol

This is what they are supposed to look like. Scrumptious huh? We shall see my results.

I'm thankful that I'm going to heaven! Where you going? Romans 10:9-10.

I'm thankful in advance that today is gonna be a GREAT day! I'm declaring that the rest of 2011 is gonna be awesome as well. I'm just excited and giddy for no particular reason. Life is good! Enjoy this day with your family and friends. Touch someone's life, be a light, laugh a little harder, relish the moments, listen to the wisdom of the elders in your life, eat and enjoy the food as if there's an endless supply [no gluttony please :) ], and love your peeps like you love yourself.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Day 20: My Thankful

I'm thankful that I get to kinda take a break from school. I still have online assignments due by Sunday, but still...now's the time to wind down and relax.

I'm thankful that Thanksgiving is at my house this year. Although I get nervous when put in a position to entertain family and friends, I'm thankful for the opportunity. I pray that all the food will be tasty, and that the day will just flow like it's meant to be. No awkward moments, memories made, new bonds formed, and current bonds bridged closer.

I'm thankful that God truly helped me to encourage myself today. He's so so sweet, and I'm discovering that fact more and more each day. He loves us all and He wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives, if we just allow Him to do so.

I'm thankful for all the cleaning I have waiting for me later on today, in preparation for the Thanksgiving guests. I'm thankful I actually have places of my own to clean (my own bedroom and bathroom), as well as other places in the house.

I'm thankful that my family and I eat dinner together at the kitchen table most days out of the week. Classic old school traditions are the best.

Day 19: My Thankful

I'm thankful that my brother is home! Yippee! I have to admit that I was somewhat nervous to see him. I mean, he's been away at college doing all the stuff college kids away from home do. We've always been close, but I didn't know if college would force us to grow apart. But when he came home a few hours ago, it was as if he never left. I love our bond. [Forgive my cheesiness. haha] I can tell that he's coming into his own and experiencing life for himself, but sometimes I wish he were still in high school or something. I don't want him to be exposed to the college life yet. I almost wish I wasn't exposed to it either. But all the choices made in the past helped me to reach the present state of my life. And I'm pretty content with how things turned out.

I'm thankful for the house I live in.

I'm thankful for what the future holds. Everything is working for our good.

I'm always always always thankful for whoever is reading this. Y'all are so anonymous! Grr...but at least I can see the views, and that makes me smile! :)

I'm thankful that God still keeps my dreams/visions alive, despite me actually taking action to accomplish them. Smh! Better get cracking! We still have a little over a month left in 2011, and anything is possible. What we do now will determine how we enter into the next year! Let's finish strong! :-)

Day 18: My Thankful

I'm thankful that Cece Winans ministered at my church today. I absolutely LOVE her! I have at least 4 of her CDs, not including the ones when she collaborated with her brother Bebe Winans. Her worship is pure, and you can just tell she's an anointed genuine person. I really enjoyed it!

I'm thankful for my good days, as well as my bad days.

I'm thankful that I barely had cramps this month!! Ladies, you understand... :)

I'm thankful that I've learned the principle of talking/encouraging myself when I'm going through stuff. I no longer put up with stints of emotional and depressing thoughts. I might feel some kind of way for a moment, but I realize I must push forward and not stay in that state.

I'm thankful that my brother comes home later on today!! YAY! I've missed that kid!

I'm thankful that God understands and loves me, when I don't even love or understand myself at times.

I'm thankful that I haven't withdrawn from any classes this semester. I think I've withdrawn from a course every semester since I've been enrolled in college. That was 2007. Think of all that money lost. Smh! Well, I'm glad I'm finally sticking it out. Even though my grades are C's and above right now, I'm grateful I'm making more progress to getting my Bachelor's in Professional Writing (similar to Journalism).

I'm thankful for my hubby, whoever you are. I hope that you're on the path to wholeness like I am, discovering who you are and the purpose that you are assigned to complete while on this Earth. =)

You can do better!

So I'm going to talk about something that can be a HUGE factor in holding you back from maturity and the capability of handling necessary responsibilities. It's one word and can be one of the most difficult things to learn.

Discipline is that one thing that makes you get up on time. When you take outfits out of your closet to try and figure out what you're going to wear, discipline makes you put back the things you don't need. When you have somewhere to be by 7 pm and it's 30 minutes away, discipline causes you to leave at 6:20 to give you extra time just in case you are delayed. Discipline keeps you from eating those sweets you want so badly and pushes you to the gym when you just want to chill. So basically,

DISCIPLINE SUCKS!!!! :-/ lol

However, discipline is very necessary. Being on time can be the difference between having a job and being fired. Going to the gym and eating well can be the difference between being healthy and being sick from disease. A lack of discipline pretty much causes a bunch of chaos. Even when it comes to paying bills, if you procrastinate and decide you just don't feel like paying it before the due date, it can be the difference between lights and no lights, excellent credit score and horrible credit score.

"Be the person you want to find. Don't be nickel looking for a dime."

Ladies, let's say you marry a man that doesn't "feel" like getting up for work in the morning. He doesn't feel like meeting you at 7 when you agreed to meet at 7. Let's say he lets himself "Go" and gains 100 lbs and doesn't feel like going to the gym or stepping away from the table. That's not a good thing right? But what that is is a lack of discipline. And a person without that quality, having the ability to do things they don't want to do when they don't want to do it, is easily held back from gaining the responsibility of receiving more.

If you can't handle an apartment, how will you ever handle a home? If you can't keep yourself out of the department store when you're on a budget, how will you ever handle more income? If you can't put your own things back, how will you ever clean up after your family? Just some things to think about. I'm working on discipline myself. But one thing I know is that discipline can be the difference between staying where you are and receiving all that God has for you. But the good thing about it is that you can learn. It takes time and patience but it's very possible.

I'll make a suggestion for this week. Make a list of all the things you need to get done, cleaning, homework, grocery shopping, bills, meetings, exercise, and include the times you need to have it done. Work hard to do it according to your schedule and try HARD to be on time with the assignments.Your success or lack thereof will show you how much more work you need to do to be disciplined.

Responsible adults realize that in order to get the results they want, they have to be DISCIPLINED! Many of us want to be married and have a family one day but how selfish is it to add people to your life and you only do what you WANT to do and not what needs to be done. No bueno. Don't add people to your chaos! You can't handle greater responsibilities until you handle your current situation FIRST. Get things done on time, be well organized, stay true to your word, stop procrastinating, read the Bible and pray DAILY (no more excuses) and do it all with a SMILE! :-)

So I hope you give that assignment a try and I hope it's a success. But not just for a week but a lifetime. Maturity and growth REQUIRES discipline.

"No steam or gas drives anything until it is confined. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined."Harry Emerson Fosdick D.D

Day 17: My Thankful

I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to do an outreach in the community today. I was responsible for making salvation bracelets for the kids. I felt a little out my comfort zone, which was a good thing. In a way, I felt like I was being put on the spot. Like all my inside knowledge and wisdom was being tested or something. I think being part of this outreach motivated me to go a little deeper in this Christian walk. I know I need to pray more, read my Bible more, and just get a deeper understanding of exactly what and who I'm living for. I hope to do a missions trip one day, so this was a preview for me.

I'm thankful for the children's team I work with at my church. Aside from the teenage assistants, I'm the youngest out of all the other teachers. I think many of them are in their late 30's--mid 40's. I'm still thankful that I have the opportunity to work with such great people. A lot of people aren't willing to work with younger kids (especially the energetic 4-6 year olds that I work with), but we have a consistent team of teachers and assistants who are unstoppable.

Even though I didn't get a head start on all the school work I have due tomorrow, I'm just thankful for a peaceful day of rest and relaxation. And before I know it, it will be Thanksgiving break! Whoop Whoop! =)

Day 16: My Thankful

Yesterday's...

I'm thankful for getting a good seat to the Radio One Family Comedy Tour last night. Ironically, the theme was: Why Women Don't Get Married; it comically touched on some of the topics we discuss on this blog. Check to see when this show is headed to your area! It was awesome and extremely hilarious!

I'm thankful for a delicious free vanilla cupcake from Carytown Cupcakes. This cupcake place was right beside the location of the comedy show. I kept telling Chelsea to get me a cupcake, since it seemed we were in line for the show (outside in the cold) forever! Of course, she didn't. lol. But God knew all about my sweet tooth (haha). Someone in front of us in the line actually bought a variety of cupcakes, and we got to have one each. Fo' FREE! =)

I'm thankful that I didn't hit a car while trying to parallel park in Richmond. Yea I don't know how to do that. "They didn't teach me," is my excuse. One day I'll stop panicking every time a car pulls up behind me when I'm trying to do it. It can just get to be a stressful situation...lol. I'm willing to learn though. :)

We went to Olive Garden after the show. I got the Chicken Alfredo pizza, but I didn't finish it all. I'm thankful that I got a few bites in last night and a little bit for breakfast, since my dad conveniently ate the rest while I was away from home. I hate when that happens, especially when you've been thinking about grubbing on some Olive Garden pizza all day! Smh! lol

Day 15: My Thankful

I'm thankful to have all five of my senses.

I'm thankful for the ODU Teletechnet program. Satellite education is definitely working for me.

I watched Enough tonight, and I'm so thankful that I was never in an abusive relationship.

In addition, I'm thankful that I was never in a relationship with someone who had "baby mama drama" going on.

I'm thankful for my job.

I'm thankful that God is the ultimate provider, no matter who my employer is.

I'm thankful for discernment.

Day 14: My Thankful

This is yesterday's list, since I was way too tired to blog last night.

I'm thankful for the person who introduced me to Pretzel M&Ms last month. I don't even eat regular M&Ms like that, but these ones are SO good and addicting. I posted on Facebook sometime this week that I was craving Pretzel M&Ms, and yesterday at work my boss gave me a bag. How sweet is that! I was blown away. It's the little things that amaze me and make me even more thankful.

Once again, I'm thankful for my natural hair. It was raining yesterday, and I had left my umbrella in the car on purpose. I just wanted to see what would happen...lol. My hair continued to be curly and kinda looked a little better. I don't miss the days of freaking out when my relaxed hair got wet.

I'm thankful that tomorrow is PAY DAY!! I also thank God in advance that one day I won't be living paycheck to paycheck.

I'm thankful that I'm learning my way around the kitchen. I'm taking the initiative to cook more. Last night, I was in a breakfast mood. Pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and bacon was dinner. The pancakes didn't compare to my mom's, but I'm trying. And everything was still good. =)

I'm thankful that one of my co-workers reads the blog! I had no idea! *SHOUTOUT to Paige!!* :-) I'm thankful for everyone who takes the time out to read what we have to say.

I'm thankful that GOD gave me the idea to start this blog, and He always gives me the words to write. Have a wonderful day!!

Does anybody know that you're a Christian?

This is something that has really been bothering me tonight. It kind of came out of nowhere. I am completely against SETTLING as I stated before and anyone who is close to me knows that the last thing I will let them do is settle. Whether if it's a friendship, job, relationship, etc., I won't have peace if I let them settle!

While I was sitting here thinking about this I started thinking about people who make decisions opposite of the way they were raised. To be honest, I know alot of people who carry the title "Christian," but whose life reflects nothing different than a person who doesn't even know God.

I'm not trying to condemn anyone but I can only imagine how God feels when He sees someone carrying the name of Christ but living a life that is anything BUT Christ-like. I use to be one of them though so don't think I'm calling myself a saint. Even after recommitting my life to God a couple of years ago, I've still fallen into temptations that I should've run from. But the difference is that I was CONVICTED because I knew those actions did not please God.

I was having a talk with someone recently and they tried to convince me that I'm "not living life" because I've chosen not to do the things that so many other people my age are doing. And when I mentioned that I'm not having sex until marriage they said, "Who really does that in 2011???" They thought it was crazy! They just couldn't seem to figure out why I would make such a "drastic and unlikely decision." No sex until marriage??? Are you kidding me???

It bothers me when "Christians" will live their life however they want with no regard to God's will. I am married to Christ which is why I can carry His name. I hurt for people who don't understand. I'm actually getting teary eyed right now thinking about all the people who think they know but really have no idea. We sometimes put so much focus on people who have never heard of God that we forget to reach out to the ones who think they know enough. We can never know enough. EVER!

I realize I've been chosen by God to stand for righteousness even if I'm standing alone. Alot of people look at being a Christian in a religious way. "My parents are Christians so I'm a Christian." "I go to church so I'm a Christian." But being a Christian means you've been crucified with Christ. (Galatians 2:20) Being a Christian means you die to your flesh and things of the world to follow the will of God even if that means you'll be rejected and persecuted by the world for Christ's sake.

I'm not trying to preach but I just hope people understand that it's insulting to God to represent Him in a way that doesn't give HIM GLORY. If no one can tell the difference between you and a non-Christian, then what's the point? God said either be hot or cold and that He will spit you out if you are lukewarm. (Revelation 3:16)

I try to look at people who are lukewarm as being blind as I once was. But to make it plain, God doesn't want you to curse after every word, have sex before marriage, get drunk, get high, lie, cheat. steal, etc. Yes it's 2011 but God is the same God today that He was a hundred years ago. The world has changed but He hasn't. He still requires the same if not more from us. He loves us and wants us to offer ourselves to Him as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him. (Romans 12:1)

So many people think it's wack being a Christian but honestly I have more fun now than I ever have. When I was in the world I was looking for acceptance, validation, and fulfillment which was an empty search. But when I recommited myself to God, I gained access to an open heaven and now find joy in living a pure lifestyle. I'm a Christian because I've accepted Christ into my heart and I believe He died for my sins, was resurrected and sits at the right hand of my heavenly Father. I'm a Christian because I've put God's will before my own. I'm a Christian because I'm willin to be persecuted for the sake of following Christ. I'm a Christian because I refuse to settle for anything less that what the Word promises me. I'm a Christian because I die to my own fleshly desires in an attempt to resemble Christ. I'm a Christian because I've allowed my God-given light to shine in dark places. I'm a Christian because I live a life DIFFERENT than that of the world.

I know that no one is perfect but it's never too late to commit to following Him wholeheartedly by living a life that reflects Him. Be a Christian that is more than a title but is one of action. Receive the wave of His glory. You're set apart from the world and  He's waiting on YOU.

Day 13: My Thankful

I'm thankful for God's forgiveness, grace, and mercy. I'm thankful that He's never given up on me, despite my seemingly evil ways and sinful habits.

I'm thankful for Living Single! I'm definitely Sinclair (far right). A marathon of that kept me entertained while I skipped class. Whoops! We all have those days. Don't trip. lol

I'm thankful for a pretty chill day, no stress.

I'm thankful that Thanksgiving is next week!! No school for a few days, the bro will be home, and I will be putting my feet in a few dishes. Ha!

I'm thankful that I'm in my right mind, and that I am not depressed.

I'm thankful for the plans God has for all of our lives. Don't forget that He hasn't forgotten about YOU!

Day 12: My Thankful

I'm thankful that I don't just "eat good" on Sundays. My mom cooked homemade collard greens with bacon. YUM!! Glory Foods has nothing on homemade. However, I saw a can of their collard greens still in the pantry. Sigh...can't go back to processed greens after having the real thing! lol

Fried fish, collard greens, and cheesy potato casserole on a Monday night! And the only thing that was leftovers from Sunday was the casserole! Thankful!! =)

I'm thankful for Fall! I love how God does the colors with the leaves! It's like a masterpiece that only He could create. Hope you're taking a few moments out of your day to appreciate nature!

I'm thankful that God hasn't struck me down, despite all the things He's told me to do that I have yet to do. Smh!

I'm thankful that our bodies automatically aim to heal themselves when we have bumps, bruises, open skin, etc.

I'm thankful that older people sometimes take my advice.

I'm thankful for my enemies and haters. Not to sound cocky or anything, but they all make me greater.

I'm thankful that I'm not naive. A customer in the drive thru said to me today, "I've been looking for a Candice. When do you get off?" There are some girls who would've been all giggly and maybe told the time, thinking that the person was actually in to them. Not I. I pretty much said it was none of their business, and did they want sauce with their order. No time for foolishness. =)

Day 11: My Thankful

I'm thankful for a pretty good weekend!

I'm thankful that my orange glazed carrots I made last week were apparently a hit, since my mom bought more carrots for me to simmer up. And no, I haven't forgotten that I'm supposed to be sharing last week's cooking adventure with y'all. I'll get to it sometime this week hopefully. =)

I'm thankful for family, friends, and good laughs. Truly irreplaceable moments.

I'm thankful for the random gift I got in the mail from Target, just for being an Essence subscriber. It was like a colorful make-up bag  filled with samples of natural/unnatural hair products and some coupons to Target. Whoop Whoop! I love Target!

I'm thankful that it's almost holiday time!!

As we inch closer to the holidays, we inch closer to 2011 winding down. But I'm thankful that there is still much to be completed before we make our debut into 2012.

Day 10: My Thankful

I'm thankful for my life.

I'm thankful that God separated me from certain people. I didn't see it at the time, but now I realize that it was ALL for my good! I wouldn't have grown and drawn closer to God if it wasn't for His divine hand removing me from certain people, situations, and things.

I'm thankful for an invite to a delicious home-cooked dinner tonight at a friend's house.

I'm also thankful for the opportunity to get to know other people outside of my circle.

I'm thankful for this natural hair once again. It's so easy and pretty much effortless. Just need a couple of products on deck to assist in the process.

I'm thankful that my mom and I seem to genuinely be getting closer. It's not as forced and gushy as it has been (something I don't like). God truly answers prayers. =)

Day 9: My Thankful

So I missed my posting for yesterday....

I'm thankful that God made guys so differently. There are so many varieties, shades, sizes, colors, etc. That being said, ahem, "White waiter from BWW. I'm waitin'!" lol! Just kidding! Referring back to an old post, I'm down with dating guys of different ethnicities! As long as they love Jesus and me, why not?

I'm thankful for good times with friends. I truly cherish gut-wrenching laughter and memorable conversations over great food.

I'm thankful that I have the trait to be completely calm and collected in the midst of chaos on my job.

Recap of my week at the gym!

So I haven't posted in a while but I see Candice is going hard on her daily Thank yous! whoot whoot!

But if you read my last post, you know that I recently joined a gym and have committed to a healthier lifestyle. I've worked out four days this week. It's about 1 am on Friday and I plan on working out again for a total of 5 days this week.

I feel extremely accomplished! But week one isn't as important as week 30 and this is about a lifestyle change not a "Imma do this for now but fall back in my old ways." No way. I was talking to my roommate earlier this week and told her how I use to run a mile in like 7 mins. And not a "treadmill" mile. I'm talking "4 laps around a track" mile. I'll get back there at some point!

So I was honored to have Candice come to the gym with me on Monday.

Now I will say she was quite comedic. Candice has mentioned in previous posts that she wants calves (of all things.) I don't know if she worked her calves much at the gym but she sure worked my stomach muscles from making me laugh so hard. From her failing miserably at trying to work the calf machine to her FALLING OFF the stair stepper, I think I burned double the calories lol! 15 minutes of laughter a day burns 10-40 calories. Factoring in doing cardio beside Candice, definitely adds up! :-) Yall would have to have been there to understand hahahaha Too funny! She was great support though.

After the gym we went to Sweet Frog, a frozen yogurt place with yummy toppings. I love that you can choose healthy options there. Being that we had been in the gym for about an hour and a half, I took the healthy option, fruit and granola. Yum!

LOOK BELOW! THIS IS CANDICE'S lmbo! Don't remember all that was in there. But I see apples covered with sugar and cinnamon, whipped cream, sprinkles, cinnamon toast crunch and more! lmbo Good thing we worked out 90 minutes before huh? haha Gotta love her smh

But all in all, it has been a successful week. Hopefully Candice decides to come back lol She came Monday but was MIA Tues, Wednes, and Thurs. I definitely could have used her accountability on Tuesday. Why??? Keep reading.

There was a cutie in front of me with tattoos! *gasp* I'm not really into tattoos anymore but back in the day, Hootie Whooooooo!

FOCUS!
Ok so yea. It went well. I'm definitely praying I remain consistent so I can be back at that 7 minute mile in no time. Stay Tuned! :-)

Day 8: My Thankful

I met with a small group of young ladies tonight at Panera. A family friend was also there having dinner with someone else I knew. As we were eating and discussing the book of James in the Bible, my family friend motions for me to come over to him. He then whips out $10 and says that I got a free meal tonight. I was in shock and definitely not expecting that act of kindness. So what, you say? It's just $10, whoopty doo! Not to me! That's an extra $10 I didn't have before I stepped into Panera. I'm very thankful that God placed me on his heart. =)

I'm thankful for my small group.

I'm thankful that my parents are spending more time together. It's something about actually seeing that, and not just assuming that it's happening behind closed doors. I came home tonight, and the two were cuddled up on a futon watching a football game. Aww!

I'm thankful for Chelsea!! I consider her my bff! I hope she considers me hers. If not, oh well! lol...I've never ever ever had a closer best girl friend than her. I've always prayed for a best friend that I could do nearly everything with. I just never had that when I was growing up. Several acquaintances, but not that one consistent girl I could tell my deepest most intimate secrets to. So, I'm very thankful for our friendship. I believe it's one of those friendships that will last a lifetime.

Day 7: My Thankful

I'm thankful that I cooked a successful dinner last night of buffalo chicken macaroni & cheese and orange glazed carrots. It was delicious! And I shall tell you all about it later on.

I'm thankful for my Queen sized bed. I had a day bed for most of my life, so I'm grateful for the change. =)

I'm thankful for the Bible. It is a guide on how I need to live my life. Everything I need is contained within those 66 books. Sometimes I take it for granted and neglect reading it daily, but it is truly a love letter written especially for us!

I'm thankful for my brother! He is probably my best guy friend. I've been kind of giving him his space since he's away at college, but I miss him so much! We rarely fight or argue, and we always have something to talk about. Our insider jokes, among other things, keep us laughing all the time. It's great! I love him! =)

Day 6: My Thankful

I'm thankful that prayer really works. Sometimes I find myself praying for things, and then I realize that what I've prayed for has actually come to pass. It amazes me. I know God hears my prayers, but sometimes I feel that I'm not doing something right when I talk to Him. Like I'm talking to air or something. But, NOT so!

I'm thankful that I'm finally through with a group project I had been stressing over.

I'm thankful for joy.

I'm thankful for LIFE!

I'm thankful that I have at least 3 good friends in the world.

I'm thankful that my Netflix bill will actually come out next week's check. So, extra cash pocketed! Whoot Whoot! =)

Aimlessly Voting

As many of you know, today was Election Day. I know I mentioned a few weeks ago that everyone should be registered to vote, because of all the people that pushed so we could have this privilege. However, I did not feel like going to the polls today. For what? I don't know who's running. I don't know what's going on in the VA area, politics wise.

However, my dad kept nagging me that I needed to vote. I told him I didn't even know who to vote for. He gave me a couple pointers, so I dragged myself to the polls. I guess I still don't appear to be at least 18 yet, since I was asked a few times by different people if it was my first time voting since I looked so young. Well! ...thanks, I guess. lol

This was my second time voting. My first time was when Obama won! Regardless of how you feel about our President, that day was a great day! Today's voting experience was blahhhh. Only one section had the labels (D) or (R) beside the candidates. The others...you basically had to know what the person was all about to vote for them. So, I literally guessed. Oh, that's a nice name. You got my vote. Now, that's a different last name. Let me fill in this bubble right here. Bam! And then some questions only had one person's name under them, plus a spot where you could suggest a different candidate. Um...no competition? I was about to write Mickey Mouse. I mean, does it matter?

People always make so much emphasis on how our vote matters, but how does it really matter? I think there should have been actual things to vote for. Like what do you think of this, this, and this? Of course, that's where the candidates' campaigns come into play. But I wasn't paying attention to any of that lying gibberish on the Tube this year. Everyone just picks out the bad in the other person, and you don't know if they're lying or what...you gotta do your homework if you really want to be an effective voice in who gets a spot in office.

Yea, I voted. But I don't remember the names I chose. Maybe I should watch the news more and/or do some research on what's going on in my state and the nation, and never vote aimlessly again.

I Smile & Laugh

Coming to America is one of my favorite movies, and Kirk Franklin recently did a spoof version of it to his top hit "I Smile." Need a laugh and/or some encouragement? Here ya go! =)

Day 5: My Thankful

I'm thankful for American Family's FREE one week pass to work out! Operation Calves, here I come! lol

I'm thankful that there are still good people in the world. Apparently, someone did a "hit and run" on my car in a parking lot. Some good Samaritan wrote down their license plate number and car model/make on a napkin and stuck it on my windshield.

I'm thankful that as far as I can see, there are no damages to my car. Thank God!

I'm thankful for singleness once again. I'm glad I don't have to answer to anyone or submit to anyone other than my God and my pastor. Independent woman, that's me. For now anyway....lol

I'm thankful for friendships that sharpen one another, just as iron sharpens iron.

I'm thankful for indoor heating. And hoodies. And socks. And blankets. And soup. SO not ready for this chilly season!

Day 4: My Thankful

I'm thankful that all the assignments due before midnight tonight (that I procrastinated on) were completed!

I'm thankful for a GREAT family dinner (prepared by yours truly), minus my brother who is away at college. We had great conversation and good laughs. And me and my dad cleaned the kitchen together! Awww, that almost never happens.

I'm thankful for dreams, visions, and goals.

I'm thankful for today's message at church on marriage. I'm not married yet, but I plan to be. So, all wisdom is beneficial at this point.

I'm thankful for all the people I had conversations with today at church. I remember my painfully shy days, and I'm always so grateful when I realize that I've come so much farther than I'd ever thought I would. Thank you God!

SN: I forgot to take pictures of the finished product of the Shrimp Alfredo. Go figure. lol...but Chelsea and I made this earlier in the year, and it's on one of the earlier postings. It was delicious though! =)

Day 3: My Thankful

I didn't post one of these yesterday, so here it is.

I'm thankful for Daylight Savings Time and that extra hour. I still went to bed late, but at least I had that extra hour. =)

I'm thankful for a good day at work yesterday. We weren't in the store working all night, so that was a plus.

I'm thankful for heat in my house.

I'm thankful for extra food I was able to take home from work, since it was the weekend and we can't serve the waste.

I'm thankful that I was able to COMPLETELY fill my gas tank up!

I'm thankful that my mom bought groceries for me to cook for dinner tonight. I'm boiling water for Shrimp Alfredo as we speak. I'll blog later on about that.

I'm thankful for peace.

And I'll post Day 4's thankfuls tonight. Enjoy this beautiful Sunday afternoon!

I Feel GOOD!

"I feel GOOD and I know it. Don't hate me if I show it. The joy I feel on the inside will show up on the outside."

Make it a GREAT day ladies and gents and feel GOOD while you're at it!

Day 2: My Thankful

I'm thankful for laughter.

I'm thankful that I was raised with parents who have been married for 25 years. It has given me a standard to aim for.

I'm thankful that I was able to share my blog with a fellow co-worker today. She seemed excited and curious as to what this is all about. =)

I'm thankful that I got to sleep in today. Sleep is a beautiful thing, especially on the rare moments when you actually reach that 8hr mark.

I'm thankful for wisdom and discernment.

I'm thankful that God loves me so much!

I'm thankful for all the people that got on my last nerve today! They continue to teach me patience.

I'm thankful for YOU as you take the time to read this. I'm so appreciative for each comment offered and each and every view that sees these posts. Thank you! Continue to count your own blessings.

No more excuses :-/

So I just signed up for a gym membership!!!!! Whoot whoot! So this has been a long time coming. I've been talking about getting healthy but have had so many other priorities that I put it on the back burner. But not anymore!

I asked God to help me with time management and His answer to that was to fill my schedule! lol Seriously, I've had so much homework and so many other things to do that I'm forced to write it in an agenda book and keep track of all my weekly priorities. With that said, now would be a perfect time to get in the gym. I refuse to be a woman who gets lost in the chaos of life once I get married and have children. Big ups to all the moms and wives out there but I must get in a habit of being healthy NOW so it will only be required to MAINTAIN my health later on.

So no more excuses. I'm hoping that documenting my weight loss and progress on the blog will motivate me to keep it up, along with the new monthly bill I've added to this all inclusive gym lol So here's a pic of me from high school at my family's house. (Disregard my extra goofy face. I was caught off guard and lol at the high ponytail Lord! smh)

Look how scrawny I was compared to now :-/ I probably was about 115ish in this pic and I was about 16 or 17. Candice said I look too thin and unhealthy lol Which is funny cause she's smaller than this now smh She's never seen me this small but this picture is how I remember myself. This new Chelsea who didn't gain the Freshman 15 but the Freshman 20 lol and more in the past couple of years is a stranger to me. Not only that but I'm 5'3"  and I'm not as healthy as I would like myself to be.

Now I think it would be a bit extreme to go back to the size above. I think it would freak out my nephews because they are pretty young and wouldn't recognize me lol But I'm actually aiming for about 125-130. I won't say how much I need to lose haha but time to get back to the healthy ME.

Coping with stress, emotions, busyness, etc for the past year in a half is accredited with the last leg of my weight gain. BUT I'm committed. No more procrastinating. Candice has decided that she wants calves lol Um..ok..So hopefully she'll be coming along on some days.

I'll be documenting my progress. As well as posts and videos of Candice and myself whipping up some healthy yet tasty meals. Stay tuned!

Day 1: My Thankful

I've noticed a couple people posting on Facebook why they're thankful each day, in the form of Day 1, Day 2, etc. I've decided to do the same via this blog. I want to end each day with a note of thankfulness regarding that particular day, or something I just feel led to thank God for. I don't know how long go for; the plan is 30 days, but you may find me going on and on and end up in a praise break line somewhere lol [very very rare lol]

Here goes...feel free to share a comment on why YOU'RE thankful as well.

I daily thank GOD for my sanity and peace of mind. Today is no different.

You just don't understand, I was about to lose my mind on several occasions! I've had spells of depression and suicidal thoughts in the past, and I'm just thankful that those thoughts didn't rule my mind for me to act on it.

I'm thankful that I was able to keep a job for nearly 6 years; some people aren't employed at all right now.

I'm thankful for Wi-Fi in my house. I remember the days of going to the library to get on the internet and/or putting my laptop in a certain position on my bed to steal signal from the neighbors lol smh!

I'm thankful that I have my own room and bathroom, and I don't pay rent!

I'm thankful for a car in my own name.

I'm thankful for my singleness; it is truly a gift. [Even though it's getting chilly, and I'd like to be booed up somewhere. Just kidding lol....no really, though... haha]

I'm thankful for my HAIR! Natural hair is amazing, let me tell you!

And that's all for now.... :-) What are you thankful for?

Blue God

I found this on YouTube in the wee hours of morning yesterday, and this song is real. The lyrics are powerful and convicting.

Distractions Just Love Me

--distraction #65, you so fine you blow my mind--

Maybe it's just me, but distractions just love me.

Every time I think that I've finally regained focus on the important thing of that moment, here comes Mr. Distraction. And of course, he's always fineeeee and charming. Or his swag was just on point, as the young folks would say lol

Here's my story with distractions of the male persuasion.

They come, and then they *POOF* disappear. Literally. I have SO many instances of guys that came in my life for a brief moment, and then quietly exited stage left. In the early instances of this, it would upset me. I didn't understand. Was it something I said? Was it something I did? Why doesn't he want to talk to me anymore?

I mean, it was real triflin. A simple "I don't wish to speak to you anymore," would've done the trick. But no, these guys that I had been talking to via text and on the phone just straight up vanished. Then, there's the distractions that I was kinda feelin' a bit. That maybe if given the chance, they could have been more. But they disappeared as well.

I'm beginning to notice a pattern. I might not be the reason for their sudden escape, but I think God has been protecting me from a broken heart. I think He is aware that these carbon copies of THE ONE are only distractions to keep me from fulfilling my purpose and reaching my divine destiny.

Distractions tend to come when we are doing the right thing. When we are staying in our lane and pushing vision (s), that's when the wolf dressed in sheep's clothing tries to lure us off the path. I'm getting much better at recognizing a distraction before my emotions get involved.

*FREE* Gift, Emphasis on Free

Only two people have taken advantage of this, while the rest of y'all are missing out on an extra gift with YOUR name on it. You have until next Friday to get in on this treat. Or else, buy your own gift!! lol
